Making a Present
Polkadot Gifts creates a one-of-a-kind ‘gift secret,’ a 16-digit code that the recipient can use to claim the present.
To start, go to the Polkadot Gifts (DOT gifts) or Kusama Gifts websites (for KSM gifts). On both networks, the procedure is the same:
- Use the Polkadot-JS browser extension, a Ledger device, or Parity Signer to link the accounts.
- Enter the name of the receiver and the amount to send. Confirm the information and click the confirm button. This will generate a transaction for signing, just like any other transaction.
- Once the present has been created, it is ready to be sent! Simply send the message to the recipient, together with the unique gift secret, using a secure messaging app of their choice, or print it out and hand it to them in person.
Be aware that anyone with access to the gift secret has the ability to claim the present, thus there should be no discussion with anyone other than the intended recipient and kept safe until claiming the gift. The gift secret loses its value once the recipient claimed the gift.
Getting the Present
Gift recipients need to go to the Polkadot Gifts or Kusama Gifts pages, where there will be a process of claiming the gift and creating an account and wallet with the Polkadot-JS browser extension if the recipient doesn’t have one. One can simply claim the gift from an existing address if the recipient already has an account.
