Our cooperation with Genies has sparked a lot of interest. Genies is an established avatar company that uses unique avatars and exclusive digital collectibles (soon to be NFTs) to bring celebrities closer to their fan communities, making a relationship with Flow a natural fit. Shawn Mendes, J.Lo, Offset, Rihanna, DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Cardi B, and others have already collaborated with them.

Network Staking and Liquid FLOW

There could not have been a more fitting way to end the year. With the launch of staking on Mainnet and the flawless delivery of the first epoch reward to all participants yesterday, Flow has hit yet another key milestone. Flow is one of the most varied blockchain networks, with around 12,000 community members from more than 100 countries actively participating in staking to secure the network.

This is also the first time liquid FLOW has been made available to the broader ecosystem, laying the groundwork for a plethora of new use-cases. We’re all very excited about the future. FLOW holders can now use FLOW to collect jaw-dropping plays on NBA Top Shot and will soon be able to use it on Viv3 marketplaces such as Chainmonsters.

CoinList – Record-Breaking Participation

There’s no denying that even in early 2020, there were plenty of Flow naysayers. But everyone’s minds changed when they saw the Flow community’s fervor during the Flow token sale on CoinList.
Flow was by far CoinList’s most broadly spread offering. We nearly tripled CoinList’s previous record for the most participation, with nearly 12,000 people committing. With over 100 countries participating, the community token offering raised $18 million.

NBA Top Shot Launches on Flow

The communal optimism that drives us forward even in the darkest hours is hype, but the substance will solidify our leadership position. NBA Top Shot began its early (alpha) access to a select sample of initial customers in June. In just a few weeks, it had generated over $1 million in pack sales in conjunction with the NBA.

NBA Top Shot went online in October with a unique new experience that turns jaw-dropping plays and unforgettable highlights into souvenirs you can keep forever. Top Shot has recruited 4,000 collectors who have collectively spent over $6 million and processed half a million Flow transactions since its introduction less than six months ago. Did we mention that a mobile game Top Shot powers would release in 2021?

Finally, Top Shot received the Samsung Galaxy Store’s Most Innovative App award! With new sponsorship from Miami Heat star Tyler Herro, now is the ideal time to get started.

Flow Playground and Dev Tools

The year began with the release of Flow Playground, your sandbox for learning the principles of writing smart contracts straight in your browser: learning about FT/NFT standards, unlocking new collectible experiences via resources, making your own marketplace, and more, all on Flow.

If you want to learn more, visit our extensive documentation site. You may also use Flow CLI & Emulator to create a local environment, or you can use one of our SDKs (Go, Javascript) to create your next blockbuster app on Flow!

Open Worlds

We introduced the inaugural cohort of Open-World Builders this summer. With over 400 applicants and 15 final project submissions, this 8-week blockchain Bootcamp produced some innovative concepts and excellent community participation. Each week featured one-of-a-kind workshops and incredible guests including NBA standout Spencer Dinwiddie and famous investor Fred Wilson.

The first Open World Summit also launched. A two-day global interactive event with a single goal: to onboard the first billion crypto users. The event featured 10+ panels, 45+ presenters from 5 countries. It also brought together a variety of blockchain industry professionals to share the latest and greatest in the area.
